Working with NPR and The Everyday Projects!

To mark the one-year anniversary of the WHO pandemic declaration, NPR commissioned nine photographers affiliated with The Everyday Projects to photograph and interview nine healthcare workers around the globe, serving very different communities but all with the same goal: conquering COVID-19, while trying to overcome their many challenges.

I had the honor of documenting Ofelia Pérez, midwife at Camati, and spokesperson for the Nich Ixim movement of midwives in Chiapas. I have known Ofelia since the beginning of my multi-year journey documenting the topic of maternal health in Latin America.  I greatly respect her dedication to her calling, her empathy and her fearlessness.

Thank you FOCA and the midwives of Larrainzar for inviting me to witness your work. Thank you Ben De La Cruz for the assignment, and thank you Peter Di Campo for the opportunity.
